EYIMOFE - 18/2/24

In an intimate gathering of 15 friends, each armed with a Valentine's cookies as delectable companions, the stage was set for the screening of the Nigerian drama "Eyimofe (This Is My Desire)".

Divided into two chapters titled "Spain" and "Italy", the film weaves the authentic narratives of Mofe, a factory electrician, and Rosa, a hairdresser, both harboring a desire to embark on a journey to foreign lands.

The post-movie discussions were hot! with a passionate exchange of perspectives. Aftersunettes delved into the portrayal of characters seemingly stuck in the confines of their realities. Mofe's poignant struggles, grappling with mistreatment by his employer, loss of family, and the relentless demands of family and customers with broken electronics, mirrored the challenges faced by many.

The consensus among attendees was the film was a realistic depiction of the daily grind of ordinary Lagosians navigating a world ruled by money, where luck often plays an unfortunatly large part in your destiny.

Members opinions on the illusion of choice varied wildely - some believed there is always a choice whilst others argued that your circumstances and luck largely affect your ability to make a choice.

Aftersunettes loved the depiction of Lagos with the whole room being seemilgly transported to the bustling streets and vibrant alleys of the city for the duration of the movie.

Ultimately, reflections turned inward as attendees contemplated the profound impact of birthplace, familial circumstances, and financial standing on the trajectory of one's dreams. The consensus emerged—that our aspirations and the realization thereof are intricately intertwined with the hand we are dealt at birth, underscoring the delicate interplay between ambition and reality.
